First off the examiner will test you eyesight by asking you to read a number plate from a distance. Before setting off, they'll also ask you a couple of questions about the care so you can prove you know it's safe to drive. These are known as show me tell me questions, you will be asked one of each. If you fail to answer both correctly one fault will be recorded on your sheet. Your test will be approx 40 minutes long and it takes minor faults or one serious to fail your test. If you record three minors in one area that goes down as a serious.

During the test the DSA examiner will be looking to see that you're a competent and safe driver. Your examiner will ask you to carry out two exercises: revising round a corner, turning in the road or reverse parking. You could also be asked to do an emergency stop.
